Meanwhile, back at the mansion, a series of events unfolds. Mabel, unaware of Roscoe's misadventure, retreats to bed and encounters Al St. John, a burglar, hiding underneath. Her startled cries attract Jefferson to the scene, prompting the burglar to make a swift escape through a window.<br/><br/>Upon Roscoe's return, he finds Jefferson attempting to revive the fainting Mabel. Overwhelmed by fury, Roscoe engages in a series of physical confrontations, knocking Jefferson down repeatedly. In the ensuing chaos, Mabel, who has regained consciousness, faces Roscoe's wrath, resulting in a troubling altercation where he leaves her unconscious. However, Mabel awakens suddenly, armed with a gun and a fiery determination. She pursues Roscoe to the stairs, where he tumbles and somersaults halfway down before landing with a resounding thud.<br/><br/>In a surprising twist of compassion, Mabel takes pity on the fallen Roscoe.
